Hyperliquid is a Layer 1 blockchain designed specifically for perpetual futures trading. It uses an on-chain order book model, a departure from the AMM-based DEXs that dominated the 2020 DeFi Summer. Its native chain processes trades at sub-second latency, and its TVL has grown in tandem with OI. The platform is now the largest DEX by open interest, dwarfing dYdX and GMX. But the metric that matters most is not the OI itself—it's what backs it.
